A couple of years ago, I bought a string of hand cut coral flower beads. These beads were like discs with wavy edges and pinkish peach in color. They looked so pretty and at that time I did not know what I was going to do with it. As I was looking at pictures of my grandparents’ house in a small town in India, I noticed the small tree next to the garden gate. Throughout my childhood, that little tree gave me so much joy every morning while I was visiting my grandparents. It was the ‘Coral Jasmine’ also known as Shefali tree. Sweet-smelling jasmine like flowers with bright coral red stem would bloom at night. In the morning, before sunrise, the flowers would drop one by one on the dewy grass, making a fragrant flower carpet! Clean flowers would then be collected and used for decorating the house or for worship. I would stand under the tree, vigorously shake the slender trunk and hundreds of fragrant flowers would rain down on me! The coral flower beads were perfect for making a feminine and pretty Shefali necklace with dewy white beads and crystals with a touch of fresh green. I love this necklace and I hope you do too!
