One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish…I could go on! I have read that story to my kids over and over again when they were little. I enjoyed it too. I never tired of looking at fish in the aquarium in the pre-school classroom, Dr.’s offices, in pools and streams. Snorkeling and seeing colorful fish and coral reefs is my favorite activity when I go on vacation to beachy destinations.
Fish themed jewelry has been around for centuries. In the Chinese culture, the fish is revered as a symbol of unity and wealth. A pair of fish is a token of love, renewal and prosperity. In the Taoist culture, they are associated with higher wisdom. In Japan, koi fish are revered and are believed to bring good luck and blessing. In the Native American culture, the salmon symbolizes instinct, determination and persistence. Salmon in pairs was believed to bring good luck. In India, fish are considered to bring good fortune. In the Indian mythology, there are Goddesses with eyes like fish, other Goddesses that live the ocean with a shimmering golden body like the fish. In Christianity, fish are mentioned and given symbolic meaning several times in the Gospels. Several of Jesus’ twelve Apostles were fishermen. Fish was linked to fertility and birth by the Celts.
Two fish swimming in opposite directions is the symbol of Pisces, the 12th zodiac sign. You don’t have to be a Pisces to wear this pendant! (I’m not). There are many other wonderful reasons for wearing this fun, and cool pendant.
Marina Pendant is made with ocean jasper stone beads, seed beads and glass beads with opal-like flashes. To me, they look like shimmering drops of water. The pendant is finished with a fringe because tassels and fringes are a hot trend right now. This is a fun little pendant where you can give your fish ‘attitude’ by changing the length or width of the tail fin, place the fish differently, make them kiss if you want or just hang them from a necklace as if they have just been caught! The choice is yours.
Marina pendant hanging from a simple chain will be perfect with a pair of jeans and crisp, neutral colored top.
