The Girl Necklace kit

Vermeer’s painting, Girl With a Pearl Earring, is the inspiration for this Baroque style necklace. A style of necklace called the lavalier was popular everywhere in the 17th century. A beautiful sculptural pendant was hung from chains, not attached to bails. These were generally longer than necklaces worn a few years ago. Use of faceted gemstones, pearls and colorful enameling were common. Jewelry was designed for daytime and for evenings that was enhanced by the soft glow of candlelight.
The Girl Necklace combines all these elements into one very vintage looking piece. The pendant showcases the famous painting, surrounded by crystals and other beads. The soft blue beads are Mexican aragonite, which softly glow by candlelight or in dark rooms. A very large shell pearl dangles below. The pendant is suspended from a smaller component by short lengths of chain.
The Girl Necklace has a very simple name, just like Vermeer’s paintings. I wonder if the girl with a pearl earring would have worn a necklace similar to this one?
